At 07.07.20 Sebastian will speak at the Austrian congress of future hospital real estate “5. Österreichische Kongress „Die Klinikimmobilie der nächsten Generation“ in Salzburg about user experience in hospitals. It will be interesting how COVID 19 will influence the debate. Sebastian was lucky to speak at the event last year in Frankfurt. The discussion evolved around the “Danish Model” of building grand scale superhospitals and closing down small scale Kreiskrankenhäuser. Superhospitals are supposed to be more efficient and highly specialized. By providing higher service quality and the right experts they can safe lives. During the pandemic, Christian Drosten pointed out, that it was the high density of laboratories around every region that gave Germany an advantage in fighting the virus. The medical directors of smaller regional hospitals are often former doctors of the leading university clinics. They know each other and exchange knowledge. By that the Kreiskrankenhäuser were able to diagnose the virus quickly. In Sebastian’s view the central question will be how the advantages of centralized superhospitals can be paired with a regional approach of having a widespread network of medical expertise.
